Arrival & Reception by Photography Guide because, photography in the rainforest requires a lot of patience and luck, our photography guides help with your equipment, provide subtle tips for improved use of blinds and maximize breaks with the weather and wildlife.

Transfer Airport to Puerto Maldonado Headquarters Upon arrival from Lima or Cusco, we will welcome you at the airport and drive you ten minutes to our Puerto Maldonado office.  We will ask you to pack only the necessary gear for your next few days, and leave the rest at our safe deposit. This helps us keep the boats and cargo light.

Transfer Puerto Maldonado to Tambopata River we drive 48 kilometers pave road and 18 kilometers dirt road to the Tambopata River close to a nature reserve , entering several  Communitys  of farmers and having the chance to see some wild life along the dirt road, nice opportunity to take pictures of birds and monkeys .

Transfer Boat to CHUNCHO LODGE 15 minute boat ride from the  Port to the lodge.

Boxed Lunch will be served at the arrival or in the car, it depends on the arrival time of the client.

Orientation Upon arrival, the guide will welcome you and brief you with important tips to made your stay very pleasant.

In the afternoon, will go to do a short introductory walk to our forest and try to take some pictures of the gigantic trees close by. This activity is followed by

Night Photography, macro lenses.

Night walks are great for photographing insects and frogs. We may be able to find praying mantis, cicadas, leaf mimicking grasshoppers as well as huge toads, shiny green tree frogs and bizarre horned frogs.

Macaws photos

Chuncho claylick. We will get up very early to start a trip for about one and a half hour by boat to the national reserve Tambopata, After a brief walk (~5 minutes) we will have the chance to see a lots of large macaws feeding on the special sodium rich clays of the riverbank. The Chuncho claylick probably attracts more large macaws than any other claylick in the world and the sight of dozens of macaws taking flight is truly unforgettable. The details of our stopover will depend on the weather and the amount of macaw activity, as the birds don’t visit the clay lick when it is raining. The visit to this place is also a great opportunity to see capybaras, several bird types, monkeys and even tapirs and jaguars where spotted on this early journeys.

Breakfast will be taken by your guide to the clay lick, to be sure you will have enough time to get the best pictures.

Back to the lodge where lunch will be served.

Photography of the jungle

A three to five kilometer hike will lead us magnificent views of the forest. The jungle on this trail, regenerating on old bamboo forest, is good for Howler Monkey and Dusky Titi Monkey, squirrel monkey, brown capuchin monkey, many birds such as toucans, guans, oropendolas, macaws and much more are easy to be spotted by your guide and you will have the chance to get the best picture of this colorful animals, with some luck, peccaries and tapirs can be found in our trails too.

Dinner

After dinner we gather around to review and edit our photos.

Overnight at CHUNCHO LODGE.

The lodge has a very nice bamboo trail where birds like wood peckers, emerald toucanets, nunbirds, oropendolas, large toucans, and even macaws roosting on the trees; are easily found and can be photographed at close distance, there is an overlook of the Tambopata river where in a clear day the snow mountain can be observed too.

After a good breakfast, our boat will take us to our car to journey back to Puerto Maldonado, the same path to get back to the city, once arrived in the city we will move to the main port of the city to begin another cruise within the reserve, this time our destination is the famous and beautiful Sandoval Lake. This is an oxbow lake in Tambopata national reserve. After approximately 40 minutes by boat, we started a 3 km hike through the forest until you reach the shore of the Lake. Since starting our tour we will visit this beautiful body of water, the place is spectacular, many birds, very good opportunity to see a lots of monkeys of several species such as the red howler monkey, brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, dusky tity and saddle back tamarin. Also we’ll have great chance to see the Giant Otters.

We install in our lodge, and return to the Lake to receive one of the most beautiful sunsets of the Amazon, we’ll stay until the evening on the Lake, because in the dark night you will be able to see the black Caiman is the largest of the rainforest crocodiles, reaching more than 6 m long, and they love the Lakes. With flashlights you can observe them closely and take good photos.

Night at Sandoval Home. Includes B. L. D.

Another day of waking up early but highly recommended, will leave at 5:30  in the morning to visit again the Sandoval Lake, in a beautiful sunrise and awakening of many of the animals that are very active this morning. Also we’ll have great chance to see the Giant Otters.

We will paddle across the western part of the Lake, with its beautiful palm trees of more than 30 meters high, reflected in the water aguajales, this will leave you full of memories of your last day in the Amazon jungle. Return to lodge, breakfast and transfer to the Bank of the River to subsequently be brought back to the city of Puerto Maldonado in time for your flight return or bus ride.  Includes B.
